Save Cal Poly Swim & Dive

For decades, Cal Poly Swim & Dive has cultivated champions – in the pool, in the classroom, and in life. On March 7, 2025, Cal Poly announced it is eliminating the program. This decision was not made due to the team’s lack of success or student interest. Cal Poly President Armstrong cites the reason for the cut as “an unfortunate reality given the approved NCAA House settlement, state budget and the tenuous situation moving forward for both the state and the NCAA.”

Save Cal Poly Swim & Dive is a broad-based group of supporters who are committed to partnering together to achieve one goal: the full reinstatement of the Men’s and Women’s Cal Poly Swim & Dive Program. This collection of past, present and (hopefully) future swimmers are partnering together to fight for the reinstatement of the team – through short- and long-term fundraising, advocacy and broad engagement.

We are unified by one goal: the full reinstatement of the team in a manner that ensures its long-term health and sustainability.

It’s a Program Worth Saving

We understand and are preparing that this could very well be a longer-term effort to fully reinstate the Cal Poly Swim & Dive program. But it is also possible that advocacy efforts or a large donor coming forward could be a game-changer towards immediately reinstating the team for the upcoming 2025/2026 season.

The Ripple Effect

This isn’t just a Cal Poly issue. The loss of a high-performing collegiate D1 Swim & Dive program has ripple effects throughout the national swimming and diving community — at a time when non-revenue generating college sports programs are at risk and Olympic hopefuls and elite athletes are already facing fewer opportunities to develop at the highest levels.
